It's not that they hate each other at first, but Anya is loud, brash and acts like a princess — and that's just not right, because everyone knows Heechul is the princess of the Super Junior dorms. It's for a TV show though, so Heechul tries to play nice, but Anya gets it, gets him, gets the thinly-veiled barbs:

"Dog? Dog?! DOG?!"

Heechul laughs, and tries to explain, "You hairstyle. Poodle. Poodle!" and Anya laughs right back, even while exclaiming, "I hate you!"

He means it when he asks her if she's scared of him, but he wasn't really expecting an answer as honest as "Yes."

"Aish! When have I ever done it like that?" he argues when she mocks his trademark peace sign, and then, demonstrating, "I always do it cutely."

Anya laughs at him, and Heechul sort of laughs along, and by the end of the trip to the convenience store, he really feels like he can tease Anya all he wants and she'd get that he's just joking, that she won't be easily offended, despite seeming so. Heechul decides he likes that about her.

She sees him in his U get-up, she seems really awed and surprised, and "You look like a girl, Heechul!"

"Well, it's not my fault I'm prettier than you," he shoots back readily, but with a huge teasing smile on his face.

When they all get sent off for MT, and the other members play a prank on Anya and Kangin and lock them in the closet, Heechul comes to the rescue, declaring, "I am Anya's bodyguard!"

"I'm not a crocodile!" are the first words that Anya exclaims though, after being set free.

"Aish! It wasn't me! If I'd known it will go this way I wouldn't have helped you out!"

Then Anya smiles, giggles, and holds out a hand, "Thank you, then."

And Heechul smirks, as if to say, Well, of course.

They all gather in the dark, with candles, and the PDs had told them, "Just go with the flow, it will be good TV," and then suddenly Donghae is crying about missing his family, and Kibum is explaining hardships of having to deal with being new in the company after having come from the US. And then Anya is explaining something in english, and the only words Heechul can recognize are, "kot mi nam, kot mi nam," as Anya mockingly twirls her hair, and Heechul has to ask Donghae, "What the fuck is she talking about?!"

Later though, Kibum explains to him Anya's words.

"She was uneasy at first" Kibum says, "she thought we'd all just be a bunch of useless pretty boys, but she's glad she's wrong, and she's really enjoying herself now."

"Oh," is all Heechul can say, a wave of understanding rushing through him.

He ignores the look on Kibum's face which seemed to be saying, I think she was mostly talking about you, hyung.

He talks to her off-camera, asking if she really meant what she said, if she's really enjoying the homestay.

"I am," she smiles, "Being with Super Junior is like being at home with my brothers."

"You have brothers?! I'd have thought you were an only child, considering the way you act like such a princess!"

"Ahh! Well, I'm more of a princess than you are, at least," Anya says, sticking her tongue out at him.

Heechul pretends to look offended, but they both just end up laughing instead.

Before long, they're practically inseparable. They tease each other mercilessly, but they sit next to each other every chance they get. When Anya and Eva visit Super Junior backstage during lives, Heechul is always the first one Anya always looks for.

Even the members notice, and sometimes they get jabs about pretending to be a couple, and one time Hyukjae even goes as far as asking out loud, in front of the camera,

"Anya, do you love Heechul-hyung?"

"Love?" Anya repeats, "Of course I love Heechul!"

Heechul is completely taken aback, that he overlooks playing along, overlooks pulling out the platonic-love-only-friends card, and says instead, "Eh? Is love really that easy?!"

The members and Eva all laugh, and Kangin says something along the lines of, "Hyung seems to have inspired a one-sided love from Anya!" and that's only when he snaps back to reality, and mouths off, "Well, of course, my parents made this face together, you know. I can't help it if girls are attracted to me."

But when he chooses her to be the queen to his shuttlecock king, it's like an admission to everyone that no, it isn't really one-sided, and for the meantime, that was good enough for both of them.
